Decal on window or car?

i just got a new decal for my car. i am worried that if i stick it on the car itself that when i need to peel it off (if i sell it or something down the road) that it will either not come off completely, or mess up the paint. is it safe on the window? or should i make it into a magnet and stick it on that way?
